I turned off my Twitch ADs. Here’s why…

Way back in March of 2022 I achieved affiliate over on Twitch after a couple months of grinding.

Literally every single day I was online, streaming, grinding, networking and it all culminated to that. Needless to say- at the time I was pretty proud of myself. Making affiliate on Twitch meant a couple things. I was able to use community features like polls and channel points- but most of all I was able to monetise streaming via ADs, donations and subscriptions.

Despite the fact I’ve been lucky enough to be in the minority of streamers who have been able to “cash out” my money on Twitch- having previously hit the $100 threshold required. Practically all of that has been via subs and donos. In total I’ve made roughly about $5 from ADs in the past 6 months… 😅

Now we’re sat in September. A pretty rough time for growing creators. Views are inherently lower than usual due to the school term starting for a large portion of the world. So each choice (and view) counts more than ever.

I looked at my stats and made a choice…

  • Every time you joined one of my streams, you were served an AD.

  • Every 15 - 30 minutes, you were served an AD.

  • Every time you refreshed the page, you were served an AD.

So on and so forth…

In those crucial first few moments when someone joins a stream instead of being welcomed by me they were being welcomed by an advert from

Honda, Audible or god forbid- RAID SHADOW LEGENDS.

And since I make very little revenue off the ADs at the moment anyhow- I just turned them completely off. Allowing viewers to not have to worry about those pesky and intrusive adverts. I can’t turn ALL ADs off completely. But I’ve disabled as many as Twitch will allow.

Sometimes this means I’ll use the “Run AD” feature when I go for a bathroom break so that Twitch will run less Pre-Roll ADs.

Consider it my Autumn gift to you… 🍂

Look- ik that Autumn gifts aren’t a thing, just shut up and appreciate it. Jeez.
